The results are below, I think three kits will be plenty to keep me busy but I plan to take along my selvedge collection, batting scraps and Insulbrite to make potholders if I need some "mindless sewing"!
The directions for cutting these fabrics are not altogether clear but I hope that I have it all correct or there will need to be some creative adjustnments!
This patriotic quilt may become a QOV for a Wounded Warrior.
I saw this pattern in a McCall's magazine a couple of years ago and ordered the fabrics, it is now a little closer to becoming a quilt! It should sew up fast, nine patches alternating with the large blooms, then four borders.
Then I had some time still and remembered the tutorial for this cute chicken pin cushion so I sewed it up, though I think it took longer to stuff it with crushed walnut shells and sew it shut than it did to construct the wee thing! There are thirteen of us signed up for the retreat so I thought perhaps I might get a dozen made for little gifts, I already have one myself. This panel has been in my stash for years and I plan to quilt it up and send it to the family whose cottage we use at the beach in Massachusetts as a thank you. Haven't yet decided how to quilt it, any ideas?
It has been difficult to get back to my usual routine but now I think I have the hang of it!
Quilting the beautiful panel: I would outline the lighthouses just like an applique (with some interior line quilting, too) and then quilt water ripples throughout the background. What a thoughtful gift it will be.
ReplyDeleteSo envy you your retreat! I cannot wait for the next one I get to go to!
