A lot of people ask, "what are you giving up for Lent?" For me it's not about giving up something, but more about reflection and growing in my relationship with God. What do I need to change in my life to grow closer to him? Am I paying attention so that I will hear what he is trying to share with me? And how can I use what I learn in the next few weeks to be a force for good in this world?
I agree about the "giving up" bit I think it has become an easy way out. A priest in our last church encouraged "taking on" more than the "giving up" so I have endeavored to take on something, like improving my personal Bible study, Lenten readings etc to become more disciplined.
