Very country, primitive, we were living in the heart of Texas and that was Christmas back then. Our boys found lots of treasures in these stockings over the years when they came out Christmas morning to see them bulging with surprises.
Next year perhaps we will unpack the many many older ornaments and let the kids come take what they want. The last couple of years we have just had the one tree and that is all silver, gold and glass. I don't have the mojo for two Christmas trees and all the accompanying work, the packing up is the worst isn't it?
Now here's a real blast from the past, this glass tray with the gold leaf design and wooden handles is from 1964 to be exact. It has survived many moves around the world and I still use it so it deserves to stay around!
The dainty appliqued tea cloth with drawn threadwork folded under the tray was my Mum's and it is circa 1940's.
and I crocheted this delightful concoction myself to cover my silver teapot, the colors are so 70's aren't they?
Now head on over to Colorado Lady's blog and check in with all the other vintage addicts.
Hi Ros..
ReplyDeleteOhhh, how I love all your pretty thinks, from the sweet Christmas stockings to the tea cozies..to the crocheted piece covering the water. I saw one of those covers made with cloth and beads to hold the cover down, in my Country Living book and thought them so cool that I had to make some. When I get them done,I will post about them. Yours and in the book is the only places I've seen the little covers and I just love them.
Happy VTT and have a wonderful weekend.
p.s. the background on your blog is so pretty..
It never ceases to amaze me how things, particularly fabrics, weather the years. Still beautiful after so many years.
ReplyDeleteJust in case....Merry Christmas.
it was like stepping back in time seeing your glass tray coz my mum had one just like it lol!!..love that sweet little drawn threadwork supper cloth too!!..and of course i've got a soft spot for tea cozies as well..can't half tell you're an Aussie gal, Ros :) xx
ReplyDeleteYour crohected tea cosy made me giggle; I remember the "fresh" colours of the 70's: mustard yellow, moss green...
ReplyDeletebeautiful and sweet treasures. As you said the 70's were something else weren't they...what were we thinking?? Thanks for sharing Ros...jj
ReplyDeleteFabrics does have a history of their own, that teapot cover do indeed wisper it was born in the 70´s.
ReplyDeleteI find the teapot covers so interesting. I don't remember ever having a teapot on the stove when I was growing up so the covers were never anything I remember seeing either. I have to admit that I was not familiar with food doilies either. Very interesting post. Thanks!

Thanks for the blast from the past. It's funny how you can look at some items and say what time period they were from just based on the color alone. Happy Holidays!

The crocheted tea cozy is amazing. I've never seen tea cozies or food doilies.
ReplyDeleteThe stockings are adorable! And please do not let that glass try lying around coz' I might just take it! It's so beautiful! :)
ReplyDeleteRoslyn, thanks so much for stopping by my blog. I love your vintage items....the tea cozies are so cute...love the 60's tray, retro is so in!
ReplyDelete~~Linda
What a wonderful collection of vintage needlework-from the country stockings to your 70s ruffle skirt tea cosy!
ReplyDeleteThose stockings that you made are really pretty, and I just love homemade ones the best! And your tea cozies are so sweet, but my favorite thing is the food doily. If only us Americans were more civilized, I'd have one too! I love the idea of them. Maybe I can turn a plain old doily into one by adding beads or something weighty to the edges. These would be perfect in the summer, to keep bees and flies out of our drinks!
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas and Happy VTT!
Carol
I love the stockings....they speak of home and holidays...so cute! Everything you showed today was great...loved the glass tray....I think that would have went well with a set of dishes my mom had at one time! Have a great VTT!
