The first were gifts from my Mum, purchased in England when we were all there traveling around together, my Mum and Dad and youngest sister, DH and me and three oldest sons.
There is a little crazing on these, I guess that shows they have been well used? The handles on the spoon and knife are china too.
The brand information is clear- I use them for butter and jam.During the same trip I purchased these two little dishes in Scotland as souvenirs, the Scottish Thistle is the National Emblem of that country. They are handy for butter and other condiments and I think they are very pretty,
This last item may not seem strange, but these are rather different from ordinary forks, and were a very popular item in the 60-70's for buffet style entertaining. They were called "splayds" or "sporks"! Anyone remember them? This set [there are actually six of them] were won by my Mum at a tennis tournament over forty years ago so they have sentimental value as well as historical! These are really a blast from the past and we actually do use them.
That first set of china is so perfect for fall! And that second set is just plain gorgeous! I love the name of the pattern too. The English sure have always made the prettiest china, haven't they?!
ReplyDeleteHappy VTT!
Regardless of their age those little dishes are very pretty. Their size makes them useful for a lot things. I do not believe I have ever seen forks like these. Nice job.
ReplyDeleteI love your little dishes, especially those with the thistle.
ReplyDeleteI never heard of sporks or splayds, but they look very useful and I wish I had some.
ReplyDeleteYour china dishes are beautiful and I love the imprint on the back. The sporks are so funny. We got plastic ones in a fast food meal last weekend.

I love the little dishes, Ive seen alot of things called butter pats, especially in silver or silver plate. I think they are adorable! I've never gotten any because - oh well, you can just have so much.
ReplyDeleteWell at least thats what my family keeps telling me darn it!
happy vtt!
All great vintage things. The little dishes are so sweet. I have a few and I use them for teabags after they come out of the tea cup. I think the original use, though, was as butter pats. Cute, no matter what the use.
ReplyDeleteI really love the forks...you don't see them very often. The patterns are lovely on your little dishes. Love them.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend and a wonderful VTT!
