Here it is Thursday again, and I have just a few things to show, photos I took last week. Then hop on over to Suzanne's blog and you can check out all the Vintage Thingie offerings.
First is this cool looking vase. It was my Mum's, she got it as a 21st. birthday present in 1939 & I always adored it so I am thrilled to have it.
It used to live on a hall table with fresh flowers in it, whatever was in the garden that week, all year round, my Mum could always find something from her garden to enliven her home. Whenever I would visit home there would always be something fresh from the garden in a vase in my bedroom, it was something Mum always did. I wish that I had told her I noticed these little kindnesses & that they were so meaningful to me-but she knows now!
This dear little plate one of a set of four, belonged to my Grandma, Dad's mother, and each of us girls, my sisters & SIL received one from my Mum. She always loved & treasured them so I treasure mine. I am guessing they are circa early 1900's.
This little shoe has been around since my very early years-it always stood on my dressing table as a child, I would keep my little treasures in it and now as an adult it is in the china cupboard. It's probably 60 yrs. old & I think my aunt gave it to me.
Finally this tiny Wedgwood cup & saucer-the cup is no more than 2" tall. I found it at a church rummage sale when I was 14, I think I paid around the equivalent of 25 cents for it.
Quaint little things with so many memories attached-I wonder, will anyone care about them after me?
All your things are lovely but your Mum's vase is fantastic-absolutely a wonderful piece of functional art. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteAren't the little memories connected to an item, over half the valve. I enjoyed seeing and reading about your treasures. I just love the little plate and the shoe. Always cherish them and pass them on to someone whom you know will also cherish them.
ReplyDeleteWonderful how items can bring back joys of the past.
ReplyDeleteSomeone will love these in the future, either from the stories you pass on or because of what they are!
ReplyDeleteMy mother always had fresh flowers from her garden in a vase in the house too. Lovely pieces you have-how wonderful they have such sentimental value. Nice find on that Wedgwood cup.
ReplyDeleteI often wonder the same thing....I can just envision the largest garage sale the block has ever had, then everyone fighting over the money! NOT. (it better not go down like that) Loved all your vintage treasures and the story to go with them, the vase is just beautiful. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteI hope they find a loveing home, that will treasure them and keep alive their stories. Your things are beautiful, thank you for sharing them with us. Happy VTT...have a lovely day.
ReplyDeleteThe vase is so colorful and cheerful! The shoe is pretty and a great memory! My favorite is the Wedgewood cup & saucer. Yes, I believe someone will care for them after you're gone - especially if you leave little notes on the bottom of them - that's what my grandma did!
ReplyDeleteWhat great treasures. I love that big vase. It just screams "spring" to me. I'm sure someone will love these pretties after you. It would be great if you could journal what info you have/know about each piece. That's what a good friend did for all her antique and vintage pieces and when she passed the kids had info on every single piece in the collection.
ReplyDelete"Quaint little things with so many memories attached-I wonder, will anyone care about them after me? "
ReplyDeleteYes, I think about that often. Will anyone care? I'm using and enjoying them more these days because I rather think they will end up in a yard sale. But that's alright, I tell myself, because the kids will have their own little things with special meanings. I guess that's life.
It's charming that your mother kept the vase filled with fresh flowers. I enjoyed seeing all of your lovely items today.
ReplyDeleteLovely treasures! I enjoyed reading the precious and special memories attached to each lovely item! The fresh flowers your Mum kept in the vase--priceless! As someone who deals in old things and who tresures them and thinks of how they were used and loved in the past-I'm sure the beauty, care, and history will be passed on.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for sharing and Blessings to you!
