VTT

It's time for Vintage Thingies Thursday.
This week my post is all about vintage papers & books my Mum saved for me. I don't think she did this for my three younger siblings but I was the first- you know how we run out of steam after the first child!

My Baby Book records first tooth, first words, first steps, first Christmas you know the drill & Mum had saved my birth announcement from the "Sydney Morning Herald" & "Christening" notice in "The Parish Register" and my Baptismal Certificate. Somewhere in our safe is my original birth certificate too!
Age one year, I'm sure Mum made this dress too.

Here's what's left of my Christening robe, it was a couple of feet longer, all lace insertions but my frugal Mum cut it down & my younger sisters wore it as a day dress, too bad eh? Mum made it with tiny stitches it really must have been lovely.

Anyone remember these two, "Donkey's Glory" & "A Stands For Angel".
Some favorite books "Jeep", a story about a puppy..........
I thought Clover Fairy was the best...........
and my very favorite when I began to read.
All are circa 1940's most have salutations dated 1947. You can see by their condition that they were well used & well loved- now what to do with them, re-bind, or just leave as is?.

The most recent is the Prayer Book that I received for my confirmation in 1957- it too is falling apart.

Last is my report card from 6th. grade at the one teacher school we attended in rural New South Wales. There were eleven students in my class. Mr Donaghoe expected perfect writing & mine was obviously not up to his standards as you can see by my grade!
Now for more fascinating visits to the past check in with our VTT hostess Colorado Lady for a list of other participants.

I love all of your books! My mom did a baby book for me, also, but when my sister came along she bought a book and ended up just shoving all the memorabilia in the box with it, so it was never put together.

You were, and are, a cutie!!! I LOVE the old books. I think you should keep them as they are - - - but talk to an old book expert about what you need to do to preserve them as much as possible now.

These are so interesting! The christening gown/dress is beautiful! So, you passed to high school, despite your handwriting!

Your baby items are so sweet. I love all of your vintage books. I would be so torn to keep as is, or rebind...In fact, I did not even know that was an option. Interesting.

How wonderful your mom saved these for you! Have a great VTT and a wonderful weekend.

Wonderful that you have all this in a collection. The christening gown is beautiful and so sweet. I love children's books too. And you have your school report cards--me too, isn't it fun to look back at them?

Well, aren't you the lucky sibling who attained those lovely memories??? I was just as guilty of your mother for not having the ability to do it for all my children. You truly do run out of steam and if I did do it, I wouldn't have any time left to blog??? Hee, hee! Please stop by and visit and browse for a while. If you like what you see, be sure to click the "Follow" button so that we can inspire each other often!

I love the old books... and I have my baby book that mom made for me. It's a joy to pull it out every now and then to read what my mom wrote, especially since she's been gone 15 years now.

Thanks for the walk down memory lane.

How lucky you are to have your Christening robe, which to me looks in great condition, and your baby book! And I love old books so much. That Flower Fairies one is a definite keeper!

My baby book is almost as old as yours. It still looks new because it was kept in its box and my mother didn't fill out much.

How wonderful that your Mum saved all of these and gave them to you. It reminds me that I have a baby book somewhere. The next time I'm at my Mom and Dad's house I will look for it.

What a nice collection of children's books. You are so lucky to have them..., and the dress too. It's amazingly beautiful.
